Serbia's 5‑ton marijuana seizure faces indictment deadline as Croatia arrests small dealer

Serbian authorities seized 5 tonnes of marijuana in a warehouse owned by Florakom in Konjuh near Kruševac, the largest drug haul in the country's history. The operation also uncovered four automatic rifles, a handheld rocket launcher and ammunition. Eight suspects, including company owner Rade Spasojević, his son Nebojša, and alleged organizer Ivan Dragnić, were detained. Under Serbian criminal procedure, if an indictment is not filed by 24 July, the suspects could be released to defend themselves, with the first detainee potentially freed on that date.

In Zagreb, Croatian police arrested a 37‑year‑old man on suspicion of illegal production and trafficking of cannabis. A search of his home in the Trešnjevka district yielded four packages of cannabis weighing a total of 300.5 grams, a digital scale and packaging equipment. The suspect has been charged and handed over to the municipal criminal prosecution office.

Both cases illustrate ongoing law‑enforcement efforts against cannabis trafficking in the Balkans, though the Serbian seizure involves a massive quantity and political figures, while the Croatian incident concerns a smaller, local operation.
