Serbia’s diplomatic push draws criticism over US ties and Kosovo stance

The United States and Serbia announced a strategic dialogue on July 17, creating a formal, long‑term diplomatic framework. Analyst Jasmin Mujanović argues that resetting relations with Washington is a mistake, warning it could undermine security and stability in the Balkans as Serbia deepens ties with China and adopts more authoritarian governance. He notes the European Commission’s refusal to advance Serbia’s EU accession talks and stresses that Serbia must hold parliamentary elections by the end of 2027.

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić says intensive diplomatic activity has secured key European partners on the Kosovo‑Metohija issue and condemns Pristina’s unilateral actions, which he claims have isolated the city in the international community. Đurić points to President Aleksandar Vučić’s talks with leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merkel, emphasizing protection of Serbian rights and the failure of Pristina to join the Council of Europe.
