US‑Serbia strategic dialogue on Kosovo
Entities: Republic of Serbia · Kosovo · United States · Marko Đurić · Aleksandar Vučić
Overview
In mid‑July 2026 the United States announced that its strategic dialogue with Kosovo would be reinstated once Pristina met agreed conditions, particularly regarding the rights of the Serbian community. The pause that began in September 2025 was tied to concerns over Kosovo’s actions, and the restart was to follow the first round of a newly‑established US‑Serbia strategic dialogue focused on security, economic and foreign‑policy cooperation. At the same time Serbia joined NASA’s Artemis programme, and Washington pressed for implementation of the Kosovo‑Serbia agreements, including a Community of Serbian Municipalities.
Two weeks later, Serbian officials highlighted the diplomatic momentum, claiming the dialogue secured European support on the Kosovo‑Metohija issue. Analysts, however, warned that Serbia’s closer alignment with China and a shift toward authoritarian governance could undermine Balkan stability. The European Commission signaled no progress on Serbia’s EU accession and urged parliamentary elections by the end of 2027. The episode illustrates a tightening of US‑Serbia diplomatic engagement amid ongoing tensions over Kosovo and broader geopolitical influences.
