Serbia's REM decides not to monitor TV Informer during election campaign

The Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) has decided not to monitor the reporting of TV Informer during the upcoming election campaign. This decision follows a controversial session where four council members reportedly reversed their previous positions.

According to reports, members Miloš Garić, Milan Petković, and Snežana Miljković had initially submitted written proposals to include TV Informer and Newsmax Balkans in the election monitoring process. Other members, including Rodoljub Šabić, Mileva Malešić, Dubravka Valić Nedeljković, and Ira Krajišnik Prodanov, had also proposed monitoring Informer.

Council member Dubravka Valić Nedeljković noted a sudden shift in the decision-making process during a specific two-hour window on September 28. She expressed suspicion regarding external influence, suggesting that the change in vote may have been prompted by communications with individuals close to the ruling administration. The decision leaves TV Informer, which has been noted for using aggressive rhetoric against political opponents, without regulatory oversight during the campaign period.
