Sergey Lavrov asserts Russia requires balance of interests for agreements
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated during a meeting with academics and students at MGIMO University that Russia operates on principles of pragmatism and will not enter into any agreements without a balance of interests.
Addressing historical context, Lavrov claimed that foreign powers have consistently sought to suppress Russia's strength from the era of Ivan IV through the 20th century. He also commented on the upcoming State Duma elections, accusing Western nations of attempting to undermine the legitimacy of the electoral process.
Regarding international relations, Lavrov expressed deep distrust of the West, alleging that the United States is attempting to distance Russia's partners from Moscow. He further characterized Western actions toward Russian assets and the ‘shadow fleet’ as activities of seizure and looting.
