Sergio Chumil completes first stage of Vuelta a España 2026

Guatemalan cyclist Sergio Chumil completed the first stage of the 2026 Vuelta a España in Monaco. Competing for the Burgos Burpellet BH team, Chumil participated in a 9.4-kilometer individual time trial, finishing in 12 minutes and 21 seconds. This result placed him 173rd for the day, 1 minute and 24 seconds behind the stage winner, Tadej Pogačar.

This marks Chumil's second consecutive appearance in one of cycling's three Grand Tours. As the national champion in both road and time trial disciplines, he aims to leverage his experience in upcoming stages, particularly those featuring mountainous terrain and significant elevation changes where his climbing abilities are expected to be more effective.
