Sergio Mattarella calls for stronger EU institutions and social inclusion
Italian President Sergio Mattarella has issued calls for the strengthening of European Union institutions and the removal of social barriers to civic participation.
In a message regarding the inauguration of the European Parliament building named after former President David Sassoli, Mattarella emphasized the urgency of reinforcing EU institutions. He warned that ongoing conflicts near the continent threaten the “horizon of peace, prosperity and freedom” established through European integration. He also noted the importance of continuing the work initiated by the Conference on the Future of Europe.
Separately, during a ceremony at the Castelporziano estate in Rome, Mattarella addressed the need to eliminate obstacles to full civil life. He distinguished between visible physical barriers and “invisible obstacles” rooted in selfishness, prejudice, and ignorance, urging the nation to overcome these hurdles to foster greater social inclusion and solidarity.
