Sergipe Governor and Riachuelo Mayor Open Major Drainage and Road Improvement Project
On 25 June, the governor of Sergipe, Fábio Mitidieri, and Riachuelo mayor Peterson Dantas Araújo inaugurated a series of public works aimed at eliminating long‑standing flooding problems in the town. The projects include macro‑ and micro‑drainage systems, full resurfacing of the Avenida Manoel Rodrigues de Carvalho (known as Estrada Velha), and the renovation of the Praça and the staircase leading to the historic image of Nossa Senhora da Conceição.
Mitidieri said the drainage works “invest in dignity, safety and quality of life,” calling the project a historic demand of the community. Mayor Araújo described the road renovation as a long‑awaited solution that will protect families from repeated floods and improve mobility.
The improvements were carried out by the state government following requests from the municipal administration, aiming to boost infrastructure, urban mobility, public safety and tourism in Riachuelo.
