Turkish Cypriot leaders push for strategic property reforms and realistic Cyprus talks

Turkish Cypriot politician Akpınar called for a strategic, national approach to property claims, saying the Immovable Property Commission (TMK) must be strengthened and given a sustainable financing model coordinated with Turkey. He urged the creation of a special resource to manage compensation and lawsuits for thousands of Turkish Cypriots who lost property in the south before 1974, and advocated for a broad National Council involving parties, the presidency, parliament and civil society.

Republican Turkish Party head Sıla Usar İncirli stressed the urgency of accelerating the United Nations‑facilitated solution process, supporting President Tufan Erhürman's four‑point methodology and warning that security risks must be closely monitored. She highlighted the need for concrete steps to protect the Turkish Cypriot community and maintain regional stability.

Democratic Party leader Fikri Ataoğlu warned against entering a negotiation round that could end without results. He reiterated that any talks must be conducted in consultation with Turkey and follow Erhürman's method, criticizing attempts by the Greek Cypriot side to draw the Turkish Cypriot community into its electoral agenda. He pledged continued information exchange and the party’s commitment to remain in a position that serves the Turkish Cypriot people.
