SernamEG expands legal and psychosocial support for gender violence victims in Chile

The National Service for Women and Gender Equality (SernamEG) is expanding its legal and psychosocial support for victims of gender violence in Chile. In the Cautín province, the Specialized Attention Center (CAE Cautín), a partnership between SernamEG and the Municipality of Temuco, has provided nearly 9,000 specialized services to approximately 400 women over five years. The center has seen an 80% increase in support for cases of severe violence between 2021 and 2026 and has filed roughly 80 lawsuits to facilitate access to justice.

In the Aysén region, SernamEG is providing legal representation for victims of extreme violence following incidents during the national holidays. Regional authorities reported that the region has recorded 10 frustrated femicides and three attempted femicides in 2026. The institution is working to file formal complaints (querellas) for affected women, offering a combination of judicial sponsorship and psychosocial reparation, including psychological and social assistance.
