SernamEG gender violence prevention and support

Overview

The National Service for Women and Gender Equality (SernamEG) in Chile is implementing various strategies to address gender-based violence through both prevention and victim support.

In the Arica y Parinacota region, SernamEG partnered with the State Technical Training Center (CFT) to launch the ‘Men for Change’ workshop. This initiative targets male staff to encourage reflection on gender stereotypes and promote men as active agents in preventing violence.

Simultaneously, SernamEG is expanding direct assistance for victims. In the Cautín province, the Specialized Attention Center has provided nearly 9,000 services to approximately 400 women over five years, seeing an 80% increase in support for severe violence cases between 2021 and 2026. In the Aysén region, the institution is providing legal representation and psychosocial reparation for victims of extreme violence following reports of 10 frustrated femicides and three attempted femicides in 2026.
