Serra Catarinense expands tourism with cold weather and religious routes

The Serra Catarinense region in Brazil is diversifying its tourism offerings through extreme weather attractions and new religious routes.

In Urupema, officially recognized as the National Cold Capital, visitors are drawn to extreme temperatures that can reach -8°C. The town's high altitude and climate facilitate phenomena such as frost, rime, and frozen waterfalls, which serve as major tourist draws.

Meanwhile, the municipality of Otacílio Costa is developing a religious tourism route. This 40-kilometer project aims to connect local churches and monuments, including a 10-meter statue of Our Lady of Aparecida and a 12-meter statue of Saint Christopher, with the region's rural and agricultural landscapes.
