Servier receives Prix Galien Italia for vorasidenib glioma therapy
Servier Group Italy has been awarded the Prix Galien Italia 2026 in the ‘Neurosciences and Psychopharmacology’ category for vorasidenib. The drug is recognized as the first and only oral targeted therapy indicated for monotherapy to treat grade 2 astrocytoma or oligodendroglioma in patients with IDH1 R132 or IDH2 R172 mutations.
Vorasidenib is intended for adult and adolescent patients aged 12 and older who weigh at least 40 kg and have undergone surgery without immediate need for radiotherapy or chemotherapy. The medication works by selectively inhibiting mutated IDH1 and IDH2 enzymes, which reduces the abnormal production of 2-HG and helps restore normal cell differentiation.
In Italy, the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) Board of Directors approved the reimbursement for vorasidenib on October 15. The official publication in the Gazzetta Ufficiale is currently pending.
