SescTV to premiere series on the history of Brazilian cuisine
The documentary series ‘A História da Alimentação no Brasil’ (The History of Food in Brazil) is set to debut on SescTV on November 18. Directed by Eugênio Puppo and produced by Hero Produções, the 13-episode series is based on the work of historian and anthropologist Luís da Câmara Cascudo.
The production explores how the intersection of Indigenous, African, and Portuguese cultures shaped the nation's culinary identity. The first episode, ‘A Rainha do Brasil’, focuses on cassava (mandioca) and follows artisanal flour production in Pará. The second episode, ‘Verde Milho, Doce Milho’, examines the historical importance of corn to Indigenous peoples and its role in contemporary agricultural debates.
Throughout the season, the series investigates various ingredients and traditions, including banana, coconut, couscous, and traditional beverages, to illustrate how food serves as a medium for historical and social understanding in Brazil.
