Setmana del Llibre en Català opens in Barcelona with 332 exhibitors

The 44th edition of the Setmana del Llibre en Català has opened in Barcelona, featuring 332 exhibitors and over 350 activities. The event, held at Passeig Lluís Companys, runs until September 27.

Writer Biel Mesquida delivered the inaugural speech, describing the Catalan book as a ‘tool for national salvation’ and a ‘vaccine against annihilation.’ He emphasized the importance of literature in the fight against ignorance and the perceived threats to Catalan culture and language.

Andorra is participating in the fair with a dedicated stand showcasing approximately 240 titles from Andorran and Pyrenean authors and publishers. The Andorran delegation includes the Government, the Association of Andorran Publishers, and the Association of Pyrenean Books.

In related literary discussions, Pau Vidal presented his book ‘Sortir a guanyar’ at the Ramon Llull University, where he addressed the importance of linguistic combat and the responsibility of citizens to support the Catalan language.
