Seven alpinists killed on Matterhorn, Mont Maudit and Gran Paradiso

Over a 24‑hour period, seven alpinists died in the north‑western Alps. A foreign climber fell on the Matterhorn (Cervino) near Pic Tyndall on the normal route; his body was recovered by Swiss Air Zermatt rescuers in coordination with the Italian Alpine Rescue of Aosta.

Earlier, three trentini alpinists were found dead on the north wall of Gran Paradiso. Later, two bodies were recovered on the French side of Mont Maudit (Kuffner crest) and one on the Brenva glacier of the Mont Blanc massif. Rescue operations involved Air Zermatt, the Italian rescue service, and the French Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne, with investigations led by the Sagf of Breuil‑Cervinia.
