Seven-Eleven Japan launches Kagura Nanban products in Niigata
Seven-Eleven Japan has launched four new products in Niigata Prefecture featuring Kagura Nanban, a traditional vegetable from the Yamagoshi region. Developed in collaboration with students from Ishizaka Elementary School and Yamagoshi Elementary School, as well as local producers, the initiative aims to reduce food loss by utilizing peppers that have turned red and are typically unsuitable for the market.
The product lineup includes a Kagura Nanban miso rice ball, a cheeseburger with Kagura Nanban pickles, spicy meat miso mazesoba, and vegetable sticks with Kagura Nanban miso. The Kagura Nanban miso rice ball previously received the excellence award at the ‘FOOD SHIFT Selection 2025’. Through this project, students participated in educational sessions and seedling planting to learn about local production and the challenges of food waste.
