Severe Drought Hits Five Regions in Slovenia

The Slovenian Environment Agency (Arso) reports that five regions – Lower Posavje, Dolenjska, Bela Krajina, Kočevska and the Coast – are experiencing extreme drought conditions. Over the past 30 days precipitation has been well below the long‑term average, while high temperatures and sunny weather have increased evaporation, leading to a water‑balance deficit across the country. Arso warns that the drought is expected to worsen in the coming days, with further reductions in soil moisture and growing water shortages.

Residents are advised to monitor local soil conditions, as the severity varies within regions. The agency updates its drought monitoring tool, Sušomer, weekly and urges the public to stay informed about the evolving situation.
