Latina experiences severe weather damage and infrastructure failure

Severe weather, including heavy rainfall and storm surges, has caused widespread damage across the province of Latina, Italy. The local administration, led by Mayor Matilde Celentano, is currently assessing the extent of the destruction to evaluate a formal request for a state of natural disaster.

Significant impacts include the flooding of homes, schools, and commercial centers, such as the Latinafiori mall. Infrastructure damage is extensive: a section of the lungomare in Fogliano has collapsed due to erosion, and a sewage pipe failure in Albano Laziale has forced road closures. Additionally, power outages have been reported near the local hospital, and rail services on the Rome-Naples line have faced suspensions due to damage between Sezze Romano and Priverno.

Emergency services, including the Civil Protection, Firefighters, and local police, are coordinating responses to manage road closures and safety inspections. While some residents have criticized the administration for not closing schools during the orange weather alert, officials state they are working to restore safety and services as quickly as possible.
