Severe Floods Hit La Rioja, Spain, Prompting Emergency Response

Intense storms on Sunday brought rapid, heavy rain to La Rioja, with Haro recording 54.9 L/m² in just 45 minutes. Streets, plazas and low‑lying areas turned into urban rivers, flooding homes, commercial premises and the historic Bullring. The regional government activated the INUNCAR flood emergency plan to operational level 1, coordinating fire crews, Guardia Civil patrols and municipal workers.

More than 90 emergency cases were opened, with responders rescuing trapped vehicles on the LR‑280 road, aiding motorists in Pradejón and managing power outages. While no personal injuries were reported, significant material damage affected businesses, elevators and vineyards, raising concerns for the upcoming harvest season.
