Severe hailstorm damages crops and property in Italy's Piedmont region

On June 10, a violent weather system swept across Piedmont (Piemonte), Italy, producing intense thunderstorms, large hailstones up to several centimeters, and strong downburst winds. The hardest hits were in the Canavese area and between Suno and Mezzomerico in the Novara province, where hail damaged cereals, forage crops, vineyards and parked vehicles.

Meteorologists linked the event to moist Atlantic air and a depression over central‑northern Europe, with rain totals reaching up to 36 mm in Moncalieri. The system continued to bring sporadic showers and a modest temperature drop across the region in the following days.
