Severe July rains cause widespread damage in Campeche, Mexico and Cumaná, Venezuela

Intense July rains in Campeche, Mexico, dropped more than 180 mm of rain and gusts up to 60 km/h, toppling at least 50 large trees. The fallen trees damaged homes, crushed parked cars, and knocked out electricity in over 20 neighborhoods, prompting temporary road closures and the removal of more than 40 tons of wood. Municipal authorities deployed public‑service crews, the electric utility and firefighters to clear debris and prune an additional 120 trees at risk.

In Cumaná, Venezuela, the same period of heavy rainfall caused channels to overflow, flooding the streets of Boca de Sabana, Campeche and Valle Verde. Local officials organized cleaning operations, removed sediment from the waterways and began damage assessments of affected houses. The response emphasized immediate field work and ongoing maintenance to prevent future collapses.
