Severe storm hits Milan area, disrupting traffic and emergency services

On the afternoon of 10 June 2026 a violent supercell moved across Milan and western Lombardy, bringing intense rain, strong gusts and large hail. The storm caused trees, branches and advertising boards to fall, blocking streets and damaging light structures in towns such as Legnano, Garbagnate Milanese, Cesate, Novate Milanese and parts of the Varese area.

The Milan fire brigade received about thirty emergency calls and worked to clear debris, secure unstable trees and restore road safety. Ambulances were slowed at the Garbagnate Milanese hospital when fallen trees obstructed the entrance, and a motorcyclist trapped by branches in Novate Milanese was rescued by the SAF unit. Railway services at Carnate were also delayed. Weather forecasts predicted rapid clearing after the front passed, with lingering risk of local flooding and unstable debris.
