Severe Storm in Milan Topples Trees and Damages Vehicles, Prompting Calls for Better Urban Maintenance
On 29 June, a violent storm swept through Milan after days of record heat, bringing heavy rain, strong gusts and hail. The downpour caused numerous trees to fall, roofs to be torn off, basements to flood and several vehicles to be heavily damaged. One high‑fledged tree collapsed onto a car on Viale Majno, breaking the windshield; the 43‑year‑old driver escaped without injury. Emergency services performed dozens of interventions, while the regional yellow alert remained in force.
City officials highlighted the need for improved urban prevention. Deborah Dell’Acqua, vice‑coordinator of Fratelli d’Italia in Milan, pointed to the damage on Via Cimarosa and the flood on Via Dezza as evidence that regular checks of trees and drainage systems are essential. She urged continuous maintenance of the city’s green infrastructure and prompt clearing of clogged manholes to reduce future risks.
The storm disrupted traffic, caused material losses and reignited debate over Milan’s infrastructure resilience.
