Nuevo León storm kills woman, triggers floods and power outages

On June 19, 2026, a severe storm swept the Monterrey metropolitan area in Nuevo León, Mexico. Winds reached 70 km/h and were accompanied by heavy rain and hail. The weather caused widespread flooding, road closures, vehicle strandings, fallen trees, and power outages across municipalities including Monterrey, San Nicolás de los Garza, Apodaca, Escobedo, Guadalupe and others.

A 35‑year‑old woman died when a large metal billboard collapsed onto her at the intersection of Avenida Universidad and Unión in the Anáhuac colonia of San Nicolás de los Garza. Two people were reported missing—a 14‑year‑old boy in Monterrey and a woman in Guadalupe. Additional damage included the roof collapse of a 7‑Eleven store, a fence falling onto four cars, and impacts on the newly opened linear park along the Santa Catarina River.

Local authorities activated emergency operations, rescued trapped residents, and began restoring electricity. The incident prompted investigations into the safety of outdoor advertising structures during extreme weather.
