Severe storm ravages Veneto, prompting evacuations and widespread roof damage

On June 10, a powerful storm swept across Veneto, bringing heavy rain, hail and violent wind gusts that uprooted trees, tore off roofs and caused flooding in several municipalities. In the province of Verona alone, fire‑brigade crews responded to more than 100 emergency calls, dispatching around 50 firefighters to secure fallen trees, clear debris and rescue occupants trapped in vehicles. A downburst‑like tornado struck Bussolengo, stripping roofs from residential buildings and forcing the evacuation of six families.

Similar damage was reported in nearby towns such as Sona, Pescantina, Castelnuovo del Garda and the Valpolicella area, with trees blocking roads and hail harming crops. In Treviso province, about 20 firefighters dealt with fallen trees and structural damage. The storm also disrupted transport, temporarily halting vaporetti services in Venice and causing traffic jams on the A22 motorway. Cultural venues suffered, including damage to stage scenery at Verona’s Arena during rehearsals for the upcoming opera season.
