Severe storms and flooding hit Minas Gerais and São Paulo
Severe storms, including heavy rain, hail, and high winds, have caused widespread flooding and damage across several regions in Brazil.
In Minas Gerais, intense rainfall and hail impacted cities such as Astolfo Dutra, Itamonte, Varginha, Três Corações, and São Lourenço. In Astolfo Dutra, flooding disrupted vehicle circulation and school schedules, prompting local authorities to mobilize assistance. In the southern part of the state, winds reaching 72 km/h were recorded by Inmet, causing power outages and water supply disruptions in Três Corações.
In São Paulo, the month of September has been identified by the CGE as the rainiest September in 32 years. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued storm alerts, with over 300 cities in the state under orange alerts for potential tempestuous weather.
