Severe storms and historic flooding impact over 120 million people in the US

A massive cross-country storm system has impacted more than 120 million people across more than 35 states, causing widespread destruction and record-breaking flooding. In the Southwest, intense rainfall triggered a Flash Flood Emergency around the San Juan River in Colorado and Arizona, leading to significant damage in areas such as Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

In Florida, the Space Coast experienced two consecutive 1,000-year rain events. The combination of a powerful storm system, influenced by El Niño, and stubborn weather patterns in Florida resulted in a week of destructive flooding and flash flood emergencies across the nation.

In response to heavy rainfall threats in South and West Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has directed state emergency management officials to mobilize rescue boats, search-and-rescue teams, and additional emergency resources.
