Severe flooding and storms in the United States

Overview

Extreme weather events have caused widespread flooding across various regions of the United States. In the Southwest, intense rainfall exceeding 130 mm led to historic river levels, particularly near the San Juan River and the Four Corners region. These conditions necessitated evacuations and aerial rescues by the New Mexico National Guard in areas including Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona.

As the weather patterns persisted, a massive storm system impacted over 120 million people across more than 35 states. In Florida, the Space Coast experienced two consecutive 1,000-year rain events, influenced by El Niño. In response to heavy rainfall threats in South and West Texas, Governor Greg Abbott directed the mobilization of rescue boats and search-and-rescue teams.
