Severe storms damage towns in Mantua and Rovigo provinces, Italy

Heavy rain and strong winds battered the town of Rivarolo Mantovano in the province of Mantua, causing pieces of plaster to fall from the historic Civic Tower, which now must be secured before restoration can continue. Several trees were uprooted, one blocking the provincial road toward Villanova and another falling on a private residence, while additional trees were downed at a sports field and along other local roads. Fire‑brigade crews cleared the debris and assessed building safety.

In the neighboring province of Rovigo, the same weather system triggered widespread flooding and wind damage. Fire services have completed 70 rescue and safety operations and still have about 40 pending requests, focusing on water‑logged basements, infiltrated premises and wind‑blown hazards. Municipalities such as Costa di Rovigo, Fratta Polesine and Fiesso Umbertiano reported the most severe impacts. Reinforcements arrived from the commands of Venice and Vicenza, including two motor‑pumps to aid drainage and secure affected structures. The emergency response remains ongoing as authorities monitor the situation.
