Severe Storms Kill One in Belgium, Flooding and Power Outages Spread Across Country

Heavy thunderstorms swept Belgium on Saturday night, bringing lightning, hail and wind gusts up to 108 km/h. A tree fell onto a vehicle in La Hulpe near Brussels, killing a man. Fire services responded to nearly 100 incidents, including flooded roads and uprooted trees across the capital.

The storms forced the evacuation of the Couleur Café festival and led to the cancellation of a Katie Perry concert in Flanders. Around 63,000 households in northern and central regions lost electricity. Similar severe weather affected parts of France, Germany and the Netherlands, prompting warnings for further rain and wind.

Authorities urged residents to follow safety instructions as the region recovers from the extreme weather that followed several days of record heat.
