Severe thunderstorm risk spreads across US Midwest and Canadian Prairies

The U.S. Storm Prediction Center issued an Enhanced Risk for severe thunderstorms covering southeast Montana, northeast Wyoming and the western Dakotas on June 7, 2026. Forecasters highlighted the potential for large hail up to two inches, damaging wind gusts near 70 mph and an isolated tornado threat, with storms expected to develop in the afternoon and intensify into the evening.

At the same time, Environment Canada placed southwestern Manitoba and southeastern Saskatchewan under tornado watches. The agency warned of hail up to 7 cm in diameter, wind gusts reaching 110 km/h and heavy rainfall, noting that rapid storm development along a warm front could cause significant damage to homes and infrastructure. Both agencies urged residents to take cover and stay alert as the severe weather moved across the region.
