Severe thunderstorms and flash‑flood risk hit Florida, the Southern Plains and New Jersey

A broad weather system bringing deep tropical moisture is generating severe thunderstorms and flash‑flood threats across the United States. In Orlando, Florida, forecasters expect hot, humid conditions with afternoon downpours, gusty winds and a low‑end risk of flash flooding. Similar heavy rain and a slight flash‑flood risk are forecast for the Southern Plains, with 2‑5 inches of rain possible across Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Louisiana and Mississippi. In New Jersey, a cold front will trigger severe thunderstorms from late afternoon into the night, with wind gusts above 45 mph, a possible tornado and localized flash flooding, alongside a coastal flood advisory for shoreline communities.

Meteorologists note that the moisture surge could organize into a tropical depression later in the week, but no impact on Florida is expected. Residents in the affected regions are advised to stay alert for rapid rainfall, strong winds and potential flooding.
