Severe Thunderstorms and Heat Wave Expected Across North and Central Georgia

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for north and central Georgia, warning of scattered thunderstorms that could become severe. The storms may produce damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, locally heavy rainfall and isolated flash‑flooding. Additional rounds of thunderstorms are forecast through the week.

Temperatures will remain high, with heat‑index values climbing into the low 100°F range and triple‑digit values expected in many areas. The heat and humidity will make outdoor activity uncomfortable and pose health risks, especially in the afternoon and early evening hours. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, seek shade or air‑conditioned spaces, and avoid strenuous activity during peak heat.

The combined threat of severe storms and extreme heat is expected to affect major cities such as Atlanta, Athens, Macon, Columbus, Rome, Gainesville, Marietta, Griffin, LaGrange, Dalton, Vidalia and Albany.
