Severe Thunderstorm Outlook Impacts Northeast US, Michigan and Ontario

The National Weather Service issued a Mesoscale Discussion (MD 1648) highlighting a high risk of damaging wind gusts of 55‑70 mph, large hail and a tornado threat across portions of southern Pennsylvania, eastern West Virginia, northern Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and southern New Jersey.

A separate Severe Thunderstorm Watch (Watch 493) covers 20 counties in southern Lower Michigan, including the Detroit metropolitan area, with expected wind gusts up to 70 mph, hail, frequent lightning and localized flooding. The same system prompted a Special Weather Statement for Livingston and Washtenaw counties, Michigan, warning of wind gusts up to 50 mph and half‑inch hail.

In Ontario, forecasters noted an approaching cold front and lake‑induced breezes that could produce strong wind gusts, large hail, brief tornadoes and localized flooding across the Greater Toronto Area and southwestern Ontario. Residents in all affected regions are advised to monitor updates and seek shelter if warnings are issued.
