Severe thunderstorms sweep northern France, bringing large hail and local flooding

On a hot afternoon in the Nord Lorrain region, temperatures had risen above 35 °C before a powerful storm line moved in from the south‑east. The storm produced intense lightning, heavy rain and hailstones up to 2–3 cm in size, causing localized flooding and wind‑damage to vegetation.

A separate convective event developed west of Rouen, evolving into a supercell with strong updrafts, frequent cloud‑to‑ground lightning and large hail. Observers noted striking mammatus cloud formations and significant hailfall in nearby villages. Temperatures were expected to reach the high 20s °C, with a return to the mid‑30s °C the following week.
