Argentina faces severe weather alerts and river flooding

Severe weather and rising river levels are causing widespread disruption across several Argentine provinces. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued orange and yellow alerts for numerous regions, including Buenos Aires, Chaco, Corrientes, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos, Córdoba, San Luis, Neuquén, and Río Negro. Expected conditions include intense storms, heavy rainfall, hail, and wind gusts reaching up to 90 km/h.

In Neuquén, authorities suspended all vehicle circulation on provincial routes from Thursday evening until Friday morning to mitigate risks from potential landslides and flooding. In Misiones, rising levels of the Paraná, Iguazú, and Uruguay rivers have led to the closure of ten border crossings and the suspension of fluvial transport services. In Barranqueras, heavy rainfall of 68 mm resulted in the evacuation of over 74 families.

Other regional impacts include rising water levels in the Paraná River affecting Corrientes and Paso de la Patria, and significant road complications in the Chubut plateau due to mud and flooding. In Bariloche, residents have requested urgent intervention as the Gutiérrez stream overflows into private lands.
