Severe weather causes damage and disruptions in Guatemala and Panama

Severe weather, including heavy rains and strong winds, has caused significant disruptions and damage across parts of Guatemala and Panama.

In Guatemala, strong winds and rain have impacted Guatemala City and Retalhuleu. In the capital, fallen trees, downed utility poles, and an electrical generator fire have disrupted traffic in several zones. In Retalhuleu, wind gusts have damaged school and residential roofs and downed trees, including an incident where a tree fell on a motorcycle and a pickup truck near Champerico.

In Panama, the Chiriquí province is experiencing ongoing effects from the rainy season. Landslides in the Villa Dora urbanization in David have blocked main roads, while fallen trees have obstructed routes toward Boquerón, Alanje, and Querévalos. Flooding caused by drainage system saturation has also affected homes in the Portachuelo sector. The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) and the Ministry of Public Works are monitoring the situation and working to clear debris and earth from affected roads.
