Severe weather threats identified across Colorado, Kansas, and Texas
The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued several mesoscale discussions regarding severe weather threats across the central United States.
In the Plains region, portions of eastern Colorado and extreme western Kansas have been under severe thunderstorm watches. Supercells in these areas have demonstrated the capacity to produce very large hail, with some storms producing hail exceeding 2.5 inches. While some initial severe threats dissipated, monitoring continues for additional thunderstorm development and potential new watches due to persistent moist flow.
In North Texas, a cluster of storms moving from southern Oklahoma has raised concerns regarding strong wind gusts. The Metroplex may experience damaging gusts as storm cores develop, with peak wind gusts potentially reaching up to 60 mph and hail sizes up to 1.25 inches.
