Seville Cathedral announces new procession route for 2027 Holy Week
The Seville Cathedral Chapter and the General Council of Brotherhoods and Cofradías have announced a new route for religious processions within the Seville Cathedral, set to be implemented for Holy Week 2027. This initiative, known as the ‘Vía Sacra’ project, aims to improve the flow of processions and enhance the spiritual atmosphere inside the temple.
Under the new organization, all brotherhoods will follow a single, unified route throughout the Holy Week. Processions will enter through the San Miguel Gate, travel along the base of the temple, and turn into the San Pedro nave before exiting through the Puerta de los Palos. Additionally, the Monument will be relocated to the San Fernando Gate.
Francisco José Ortiz Bernal, the Dean-President of the Cathedral Chapter, described the project as a ‘living project’ that evolves through experience. The primary goals are to dignify the passage of the brotherhoods, facilitate access to services, and ensure the Cathedral remains a central space for prayer, meditation, and religious devotion rather than just a transit point.
