Seville Holy Week 2027 organizational changes
Overview
Religious authorities in Seville have announced several structural and organizational updates for the 2027 Holy Week observances.
The Seville Cathedral Chapter and the General Council of Brotherhoods and Cofradías introduced the ‘Vía Sacra’ project, which establishes a single, unified procession route within the cathedral. This new route is designed to improve flow and enhance the spiritual atmosphere, directing brotherhoods through the San Miguel Gate and the San Pedro nave before exiting via the Puerta de los Palos.
Further updates involve the restructuring of the Palm Sunday procession order along the Carrera Oficial. The Sagrada Cena brotherhood will move to the third position, following Jesús Despojado. Additionally, the Cristo de la Exaltación from the Hermandad de los Caballos de Santa Catalina has been selected to preside over the official Via Crucis in the Seville Cathedral on February 15, 2027, marking the first time since 1978 that a chosen image will preside consecutively.
