Seville memorial for Sandra Peña vandalized

An improvised memorial in the San Carlos neighborhood of Seville has been vandalized with white paint. The incident occurred near the entrance of the building where 14-year-old Sandra Peña resided, just days before the first anniversary of her death.

Unknown individuals covered flowers, candles, photographs, and messages with paint, also marking the adjacent sidewalk. Municipal cleaning services (Lipasam) were called to clean the area, and by Sunday morning, the memorial had been removed. This follows a previous act of vandalism in May involving spray paint.

Sandra Peña died on October 14, 2024, following continuous bullying at the Irlandesas de Loreto school. While a provincial court recently archived the criminal case against the school, the court noted that the institution’s response was “absolutely deficient, insufficient and contrary to the urgency” required by bullying protocols.
