Sewer Pit Accident in Shibin El Qanater, Egypt Kills Two

Two men died and two others were injured after falling into a sewage pit while cleaning it in the village of Al‑Salmanya, Shibin El Qanater district, Qalyubia governorate. The victims, 53‑year‑old Saeed H. S. and 40‑year‑old Mohamed M. A., were pulled down and drowned, while 35‑year‑old Salma S. A. and 24‑year‑old Youssef A. S. suffered choking and exhaustion while attempting to rescue them. Emergency services transported the injured to a hospital for treatment. Police and forensic investigators have opened a case to determine the circumstances of the accident.

The incident has prompted local mourning and a call for stricter safety measures during maintenance of underground utilities.
