Fatal sewage pit accidents in Kenya

Overview

In Kenya, two separate incidents involving sewage pits resulted in fatalities. In Mombasa County, a 12-year-old student died in Nyali after a parked bus caused the surface of a soft sewer pit to cave in while the child was playing nearby.

In a different incident in Migori County, two young children, aged one and five, drowned in a neglected sewage pit in Kowuor village. Their bodies were discovered by a villager after they had traveled from the Masara area to visit family. Police are investigating both cases.
