SFL Missions awarded contract for GHGSat greenhouse gas monitoring satellite
SFL Missions has been awarded a contract by Montreal-based GHGSat to develop the GHGSat-D2 demonstration satellite. This next-generation satellite is designed to provide more accurate and frequent measurements of greenhouse gas emissions from Earth's surface.
To accommodate a larger, high-accuracy sensor manufactured by ABB Canada, SFL Missions is utilizing its expanded DEFIANT-XL bus. The completed GHGSat-D2 satellite is expected to weigh just under 100 kg at launch, a significant increase from the 15 kg average of previous missions using the SFL NEMO microsatellite bus.
The mission aims to pinpoint and measure methane emissions from smaller ground sources. To achieve this, the satellite will feature an advanced Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS) to ensure precise sensor pointing and orbital stability.
