SGL Carbon expands partnership with X-Energy for US reactor supply

SGL Carbon has expanded its partnership with the US-based company X-Energy to supply graphite for the construction of small modular reactors (SMRs). The collaboration focuses on providing graphite for the internal lining of reactors.

Under a ten-year framework agreement, SGL Carbon aims to produce over 100 million dollars worth of graphite within the first three years to support X-Energy's initial commercial projects. To ensure sufficient supply, X-Energy is investing up to 8 million dollars to modernize infrastructure and build new facilities at SGL's site in Chedde, located in the French Alps.

The reactors are intended for Dow Chemical at a site in Seadrift, Texas. The project involves the construction of four small reactors designed to generate a total of 800 megawatts of thermal energy or 320 megawatts of electrical power.
