Shadrack Sibiya faces rape and trafficking charges
Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya is facing multiple legal proceedings in South Africa. He is currently in custody following his arrest at a Sandton strip club, where he is facing five criminal charges, including rape of an 18-year-old woman, human trafficking, and the sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl.
During his bail application at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court, Sibiya denied the allegations, describing them as baseless. He argued that the charges are a conspiracy intended to remove him from the South African Police Service (SAPS). His legal team has cited his medical conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, as well as his family responsibilities, as grounds for his release.
In addition to the criminal case, Sibiya has been served with notice for an expedited internal SAPS disciplinary hearing scheduled for 5 October. This disciplinary action stems from separate allegations of corruption and misconduct that emerged during the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. SAPS officials confirmed the hearing will proceed regardless of whether Sibiya is granted bail.
