During his bail application, Sibiya denied the allegations, describing them as “baseless” and claiming the charges are a “conspiracy intended to remove him” from the SAPS. His legal team has requested release based on his family responsibilities and medical conditions, including high blood pressure and diabetes.

In addition to the criminal proceedings, Sibiya has been served notice for an expedited internal SAPS disciplinary hearing scheduled for 5 October. This hearing addresses separate allegations of corruption and misconduct that surfaced during the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. SAPS officials confirmed the disciplinary action will proceed regardless of the outcome of his bail application.
