Shakira launches Macondo Park cultural complex in Madrid

Colombian singer Shakira has launched Macondo Park in Madrid, a massive 30-hectare temporary cultural complex designed to host her ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour’. Developed in collaboration with the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the site covers 185,000 square meters and is inspired by the literary universe of Gabriel García Márquez’s ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’.

The complex features the Shakira Stadium, a purpose-built structure with a 55,000-person capacity designed specifically for her residency rather than as an adapted sports venue. Beyond music, the park includes various thematic pavilions dedicated to Latin American culture, such as ‘La Biblioteca’, a literary space hosting reading clubs and encounters with authors, and ‘El Museo de Shakira’, which displays items from the artist’s career.

The project emphasizes sustainability through the use of modular, textile, and reusable structures intended to minimize waste during dismantling. While the physical park supports her concert dates, cultural programming is scheduled to continue through June 2027.
