Shakira prepares immersive Macondo-themed residency in Madrid

Construction is underway in Madrid for a massive immersive experience titled ‘Mundo Macondo’ to accompany Shakira’s upcoming concert residency. Located at the Iberdrola Music venue in Villaverde, the site features eight pavilions inspired by the magical realism of Gabriel García Márquez’s ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’.

Each pavilion will focus on different themes, including gastronomy, fashion, art, music, and literature. The layout is designed around a central plaza with a ‘Macondo tree,’ using color-coded paths to guide attendees through the various zones. The gastronomy area will include food trucks and an ‘infinite table’ concept, while the fashion area will showcase Latin American brands.

The residency consists of twelve concerts beginning on September 18, marking the conclusion of the ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour’ in Europe. The event is described by production director Alberto Rivas as an unprecedented scale of infrastructure for a month-long series of shows.
